KONE's Corporate Responsibility Report

KONE’s first global corporate responsibility report (2008) applies GRI (G3) reporting guidelines and covers economic, social and environmental aspects. To see  how this report corresponds with GRI guidelines, please click here.

Based on its own assessment, KONE has followed application level C of the GRI reporting guidelines. The GRI Application Level has been verified by a third party, PricewaterhouseCoopers. The reporting period corresponds with the calendar year and with KONE’s financial year of January 1 – December 31, 2008.

Our approach follows the GRI’s triple bottom line approach. Thus, this publication reports on all aspects of corporate responsibility. When choosing indicators, the driver has been relevance to KONE’s operations. From a reporting units and entities point of view, we have included all the major local and regional organizations and all production centers so that the report represents and provides a comprehensive and true view of the total corporation.

Data Collection

The data for the indicators has been collected from various business systems. All financial data and a significant proportion of employee-related data have been collected through KONE’s enterprise resource management and financial reporting systems.

The environmental data was collected with a customized environmental data collection spreadsheet
from local organizations, then consolidated on a country level and further consolidated globally in a
combined effort with KONE’s global carbon footprint assessment analysis. KONE’s global carbon footprint assessment has been carried out in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and ISO 14064 guidelines by a third party agency.

The next corporate responsibility report will be published during the first quarter of 2010.
