The building

This four-story building is a typical Finnish apartment building from the 1950s. There was no elevator and no space was available for an elevator shaft in the existing stairwell.

The solution

The solution was to install a KONE MaxiSpace™ elevator in place of the half rise of the stairs, and replace the other half with a long single staircase. The spacious car of the KONE MaxiSpace™ - one-third larger than a conventional solution in the same shaft space – improves access for wheelchairs and prams.

The solution also includes KONE Deco™ design panels featuring Marimekko designs.  These provide a unique ambiance for the elevator car.

With careful management, inhabitants could live normally in their homes during the project. The result was better access to the apartments and increased value for the property.
