The tallest all-residential building in the world, Q1 tower, rises impressively on Queensland’s Gold Coast. the project was developed by sunland Group ltd. the relatively slim tower has a tapering form, resembling a rocket. the 80-story building, completed in 2005, extends to 323 meters (1060 ft). Q1 placed second in the 2005 Emporis skyscraper Award.

On level 60, there is an observation terrace and a rainforest garden. level 74 features the highest swimming pool in Australia. the illuminated spire of the tower is visible from a distance of 200 kilometers (125 miles). Atelier sDG, experienced in Australian residential design, was the architect.

The over 500 residential units and various amenities are served by eleven KONE elevators. A total of nine KONE Alta™ elevators serve the residential floors, two of them attaining the speed of 9 m/s (1800 fpm).  Currently, these are the world’s fastest apartment tower elevators. One KONE Monospace® elevator handles traffic to the car park and another shuttles between the top two floors. the elevators were installed by the trailing deck method. One of the observation deck elevators was
used as a jump lift to increase installation productivity.
The very first KONE Alta™ elevators were installed in Australia, at Aurora Place in sydney in 2000. KONE has gained a strong foothold in the high-rise market.
