Testimonial iconAt KONE, hard work pays off.

Name: Danilo De Rossi
Age: 41
Job title: Assistant Director of Installation and Field Processes, Asia-Pacific Region
Job description: Developing the level of safety, quality and productivity of installation
Place of work: Hong Kong
Education: Certificate in Management Studies.
Time at KONE: 18 years

I moved to Hong Kong in early 2009 to manage and develop the level of safety, quality and productivity of installation throughout the Asia-Pacific region. A lot of my job is about people and influencing the way they work.

When I was young I never thought I would follow in my father’s or grandfather’s footsteps by working in the elevator sector. However, with a background in electronics it was easy to start working with elevators and escalators, since they are packed full of electronic components.

I’ve worked as an installer, a troubleshooter, in technical field support, and as an installation support manager, and I’ve liked all my jobs. When I was working in Italy, I managed large infrastructure projects and it was very rewarding to see it all coming together. When you start there’s a hole in the ground and two years later it’s a new metro station. It requires stamina because you have to drive things forward every day.

Constant self-development

Sometime in 1998, the Head of Global Installation was visiting Rome. I was one of the few people who spoke English in the branch at that time, so I helped him to get around and acted as a translator. Even if my English was not exceptional at the time, I believe that my strength was to understand the culture. A few years later, he called me asking whether I wanted to join his team at the corporate level. They say that luck is when opportunity and preparation meet. I firmly believe so, and I have always worked intensively in developing myself and my team.

Learning from committed people

I appreciate that KONE is a global company. Thanks to my knowledge of English, I have been involved in many projects and exposed to different people and cultures. In order to engage with people you need to relate to their culture. I have progressively realized that you also need to prepare and invest in yourself.

In each assignment, I learn a great deal from the people I work with and I have had the opportunity to constantly grow. Regardless of the location, KONE has a lot of committed people. KONE has been a supportive environment where hard work pays off.
