The new National Grand Theatre is a remarkable recent architectural innovation in Beijing. The theatre, equipped with KONE elevators and escalators, is located next to the Great Hall of the People.

The building

The complex consists of 21 levels, with an opera hall, a concert hall, and two theatres. This large complex hosts many types of events, so smooth people flow is essential. The KONE elevators and escalators ensure that the different halls are filled and emptied smoothly and on time.

The solution

The complex is served by 52 KONE MonoSpace® elevators and 36 KONE escalators. Space-saving KONE MonoSpace® technology is known for its eco-efficiency. KONE met special design demands for this project: wood surfaces were provided for the elevator doors and especially quiet elevators were installed for moving stage sets. KONE escalators minimize noise and vibration so as not to disturb performances.
