The company, world leaders in the elevators and escalators sector, has secured another five-year term after a decade working with the airport, the busiest single-runway airport in the world.
The prestige contract was granted following a successful tender for the maintenance of 135 passenger lifts, 45 goods lifts, 70 escalators and 35 passenger auto walks.
The firm scooped the order against exceptionally stiff competition, with questionnaires originally sent out to 16 companies covering a range of issues including health and safety, security and risk management in advance of a complex tendering process.
The contract was also won against the background of the sale of the airport by BAA to Global Infrastructure Partners, with all main services the subject of new tendering.
Andy Banks, operations manager for KONE at Gatwick said: “With the existing framework due to expire and the airport under new ownership the contract was publicly tendered.
“Following a carefully prepared presentation and proposal, KONE successfully re-secured the contract for five years despite initially tendering only for three.
“We believe the airport was provided with a comprehensive offering that demonstrated our ability to fully understand the needs and priorities of a 24-7 environment.”
Andy Banks said Gatwick's new management had been impressed by KONE’S work over the past decade.
“The contract covers all inclusive maintenance which will be undertaken during the night and round the clock repairs.”
The firm's latest success follows the completion of a prestige contract earlier this year at Severn Trent’s new £60 million headquarters in Coventry, with installation of a new KONE state of the art elevator system.
