There is some inaccurate information circulating in the media in relation to proposed changes announced internally at KONE, the global Elevator and Escalator Company.
The proposal announced in Keighley on Monday affects workers at KONE’s global escalator production facility based in Keighley, Yorkshire. Under the proposal KONE proposes to move global supply of escalators away from the UK, but intends to keep the manufacture of some heavy-duty escalators for UK customers at its Keighley facility. The proposal potentially affects 60 UK-based KONE employees of its 1,900 strong UK workforce.
In order to be more agile and efficient in the current market environment, KONE announced last July that it estimated to decrease the number of jobs globally by 500 over the course of the next nine months. As of then, KONE had over 34,200 employees globally.
