Formerly the original headquarters of the North Eastern Railways, the 1906 Grade II listed building has benefitted from a £25m investment by Yorkshire’s leading hotelier, Cedar Court Hotels.
Following an 18 month refurbishment programme, Cedar Court has now opened its doors as The Grand, the only five star hotel in York.
KONE has provided two next generation MonoSpace Exclusive lifts which are 30% more efficient than the previous model.
KONE suggested a range of finishes and subsequently commissioned a unique bronze anodised finish for landing entrances to co-ordinate effortlessly with the buildings hard wood timber panelling.
Scot Turner manager at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel said: “Cedar Court has carefully converted the building retaining the existing architecture and many of the buildings original features.
“What could not remain original were the energy levels that used to be needed for such a building. Energy efficiency is a major player in any 21st century building and as a lift can account for up to ten per cent of a building’s total consumption they are an integral part of any building’s overall operation and subsequent operating costs.
“It was KONE’s energy credentials and their designs and finishes that secured them this contract over and above any other supplier and I would have no qualms in working with them again on any project in the future.”
