This is the first building in the city to benefit from the KONE Destination Control System (DCS) which has been designed specifically to reduce energy consumption and improve efficiency of buildings.
Six DCS lifts have been installed in the 170,000 sq ft energy efficient headquarters, located in St John’s Street. All 1700 employees now based at the seven storey building have received training on using the innovative system.
The KONE Destination Control System (DCS) works by organising passengers into lifts serving their desired floor rather than conventional systems whereby the lift stops at every floor that is requested.
The required destination is entered before entering the lift and the control system allocates the passengers to the appropriate car By knowing in advance the required floor and the number of people waiting, the system groups passengers heading to the same destination in the same car.
This leads to shorter transit times and fewer intermediate stops as the car serves only a specific range of floors.
The KONE DCS technology has been installed into recent landmark buildings in Birmingham including the Wesleyan Building, Colmore Plaza and the University of Birmingham Muirhead Tower.
