Tips for other trades 

  • Never work on an elevator, escalator or autowalk that is not isolated against unplanned movement unless you have undertaken appropriate training by a qualified organisation.
  • Never enter an elevator motor room, shaft, pit, secondary or sheave room without the appropriate authorisation.
  • Never attempt to carry out any installation work through any of these areas without the appropriate authorisation.
  • Never use any part of an escalator or autowalk as a working deck or to support a working deck (e.g. Scaffolding) as they are not designed to support these loads.
  • Never probe or clean behind panels, guards or in gaps as they may conceal live components, moving parts or sharp edges.
  • While the structures that house elevators, escalators and autowalks are waterproof, the equipment itself may not be. Hosing or dousing of elevators, escalators or autowalks may result in failure of the equipment and costly repairs.
  • Finally, always consult your local KONE Service representative prior to carrying out any work on or in the immediate vicinity of lifts, escalators.
