KONE wins the National Energy Conservation Awards – 2010 in the General Category 

-     instituted by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE)
-     implementation of efficient energy conservation methods

Chennai, December 14, 2010: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India, have been giving awards to selected industrial units who have made systematic and serious attempts for efficient utilization and conservation of energy. These awards were first given away in 1991 and the participation level from then have been on an upswing. Kone was awarded the second prize in the general category recognizing its efforts for the conversation of energy at a glitzy event that was held in Delhi today.

Mr. Neeraj Sharma, Managing Director, KONE Elevator India Private Limited, who received the award today from Shri Sushilkumar Shinde, Hon’ble Union Minister of Power commented “Environmental Excellence is one of KONE’s key strategic initiatives. The initiative has clearly defined objectives and is monitored on a monthly basis by KONE’s executive board. We believe that Environmental Excellence creates value for all our key stakeholders – customers, shareholders, employees, and society as a whole.”

Our focus areas include reducing operational carbon footprint, improving material efficiency, as well as minimizing waste, water use, and the use of hazardous substances”, added Mr. Sharma.

The energy conservation methods that we have used, be it methods installed to improve power quality, use of LED lighting, providing natural ventilation, environmental excellence towards water conservation etc. have moved us towards this recognition. As Mr. J. Sivaraman, Executive Director, Factory Operations, KONE Elevator India Private Limited says “our team has been thinking out of the box to come out with ideas that could help in saving energy and thus save costs too.  We have been providing them platforms to work on projects and have been a constant source of motivation for them. With this recognition, we are only setting higher goals for us and we expect to set a precedent each time.”
