A step-by-step guide
When you decide to modernise your elevator, KONE ensures a smooth process from start to finish. For each project, KONE assigns a project manager who manages the whole process. Their job is to provide a single point of contact, to answer any questions you might have, and to make sure that the project is completed on time and on budget. They can also provide information about permits, subsidies and regulations.
They coordinate everything from planning to installation. When the installation is complete, KONE conducts a safety and performance inspection, making sure the new elevator meets the relevant norms.
Before you start, it’s best to be sure of exactly what needs to be done. You can put your elevator to the test. Or you can order a thorough professional assessment, to see if your elevator needs to be modernised. Doing the assessment does not obligate you in any way.
The outcome of the KONE Care for Life™ assessment is a full report showing where there may be deficiencies in your elevator, together with an action plan to get it working optimally. The solution may range from minor repairs, to a modernisation package, to full replacement.
In order to help you discuss elevator modernisation with building owners and residents, KONE has prepared a short presentation, available here.
Contact KONE to help you analyze the energy-efficiency of your elevator with the KONE Care for Life service and to get a cost estimate for modernising your equipment.
Once the initial decision has been made to proceed, ask KONE to make a proposal. This does not obligate you in any way. KONE will make a proposal covering the elevator equipment and installation.
Once a final decision has been made, KONE can coordinate the entire process, from site planning to final inspection.
Modernisation packages speed up the planning process. They have been developed to address the issues of safety, performance and energy efficiency in elevators in residential or commercial buildings. They enable you to modernise the equipment inside the shaft, while retaining support structures and landing doors. The most advanced upgrade for your equipment can be achieved with full replacement.
Before installation begins, your KONE contact conducts a site survey to determine the best solution and the best way to implement it. In this way you get the right solution for your requirements, and it ensures safe and convenient access for tenants during installation. They also see to it that all permits, plans and calculations are checked and approved by the authorities.
KONE can manage the entire installation process from site survey to removal of debris.
During installation, everything possible is done to minimize disturbance to residents. KONE protects the floors, walls and walkways to ensure that no damage is done to building. During the project, KONE keeps residents informed about its progress.
KONE also ensures that there is environmentally-friendly removal, disposal, or recycling of the old equipment. When the project is complete, KONE carries out the final safety and performance inspections before final handover to the client.
When modernising an elevator group, you might expect traffic capacity to decrease when elevators are out of service. The KONE Modernisation Overlay eliminates capacity decrease during modernisation and can even increase people flow capacity during the project. The Overlay is a temporary group control system that is compatible with both new and old elevator systems. It keeps an integrated elevator group during the project. Passengers use common landing stations to call new and old elevators. The overlay allocates landing calls, giving priority to the new, more efficient ones.
To keep your elevator running reliably and safely for decades, KONE provides KONE Care™ maintenance services. The KONE Care service is based on preventive maintenance to detect and fix potential problems before they lead to stoppage of the equipment.
The KONE Care Standard package is ideal for a single residential building. This is a cost-effective package for reliable, good-quality maintenance services that provides full compliance with regulations and standards.
The KONE Care Plus and KONE Care Premium packages can cover a large complex of buildings. They provide you with extensive information about performance of elevators, helping you keep an eye on what maintenance has been done, and helping you keep maintenance costs under control.
