Celebrity Equinox: KONE solutions onboard

30/06/2009

KONE Marine delivered 24 elevators for Celebrity Equinox, the second in Celebrity’s new class of ships - Solstice.

Equipped with 24 KONE elevators and capable of carrying more than 2,850-guests, the Celebrity Equinox was launched from the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, one of the world leading shipbuilders.

Celebrity Equinox is the second in Celebrity’s new class of ships - Solstice, with even more luxurious and spacious cabins than existing Celebrity ships. The ship's sister ships are Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Eclipse, and two yet unnamed ships.

The smooth people and goods flow onboard this deluxe floating palace with its 19 passenger decks is ensured by eight scenic, four passenger, nine service elevators, including one low speed platform providing access to passengers with impaired mobility as well as two dumbwaiters for transportation of food and goods. KONE elevators are designed to cope with the harsh sea environment and integrate with the ship, both in design and in people flow. Both the machine-room-less KONE MonoSpace® elevator and the KONE MiniSpace™ elevator, with a small machine room, are powered by the KONE EcoDisc® hoisting machine.

“We consider our long-term successful cooperation with Meyer Werft shipyard as a great honor and achievement,” says Ari Lehtoranta, EVP, Major Projects, KONE. “These fantastic ships require the most prestigious and technically advanced elevators and we hope to continue our collaborating on new interesting projects with Meyer Werft and Celebrity”.
