KONE delivers personnel and cargo elevators for Usan FPSO

KONE is delivering a personnel elevator and a cargo elevator for a super-large Floating, Production, Storage, and Offloading unit (FPSO), built by Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (HHI).

 

The FPSO will be completed by the end of 2011 and the contract is worth US $1.6 billion. The FPSO will measure 320m in length, 61m in width, 32m in depth, and weigh 114,000 tons. It will be able to produce 160,000 barrels of oil and 5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, and will be able to store 2 million barrels of oil.  It will be located in the Usan field, which is in water 750 meters deep, 100 km southeast of Bonny Island in Nigeria.

Marine Elevators for this projects have been specifically designed for heavy duty FPSO environment: to withstand heavy weather conditions and platform's dynamic movements.  International Elevator safety issues adapted to shipboard installation, regarding overspeed governor, brakes, counterweight, as well as headroom height and pit depth.

About USAN field

The field is operated by Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited (20%) on behalf of equity partners Chevron Petroleum Nigeria (30%), Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Offshore East) (30%) and Nexen Petroleum Nigeria (20%).
