KONE designed, manufactured and installed 10 customized marine elevators, of which 6 are elevators dedicated for passengers and 4 elevators for crew and service use.
The ship’s interior decor and furnishings have been studied in detail and materials chosen with great care in order to satisfy the tastes of the demanding customers. The famous Italian architect Giacomo Mortola has found the perfect balance between modern functional requirements and Art Deco in combination with distinctive European styling.
“The luxury interiors of the KONE passenger elevator cars have been custom-designed to be in perfect harmony with and reflect the atmosphere onboard the ship,” says project manager Viviana Varalla of KONE Marine & Major Projects in Italy, and continues: “The KONE marine elevators which we delivered onboard Silver Spirit represent the new generation KONE People Flow Solutions dedicated to cruise vessels. We utilized the proven and reliable but eco-efficient EcoDisc® hoisting technology, with help of which we can offer energy saving, fast but smooth access for all passengers and crew to all areas of the ship.”
Silver Spirit, with her 36,000 gross tonnes and 195 metres length, is the largest cruise ship in the Silversea’s fleet of six ships. There are 8 decks and the ship has a cruising speed of 20.3 knots. The ship accommodates over 540 passengers in 270 luxury suites, most of them with a private balcony. The passengers will be assisted by an international crew of 378.
Silver Spirit will be christened on 21 January 2010 in the port of Fort Lauderdale, USA, where after she will start her “Grand Inaugural Voyage” around the World.
