Construction of the shopping mall was made complex by the presence of the Stamford Canal that runs through the core of the property. Additionally, the MRT station along Somerset Road was open during the entire construction process, moving approximately 55,000 commuters per day, all walking past the construction site.
Working together assured that check point and handover timetables were completed as agreed.KONE’s primary tasks in this project were:• Maintain efficient People Flow™• Meet timely delivery and installation schedules• Work efficiently next to an operating metro station• Respond quickly to retailer changes
Green business is good business
Sustainable shopping experience313@somerset was planned and built with social and environmental sustainability clearly in mind. KONE was able to meet and exceed customer expectations by delivering products and solutions that are energy efficient, which played an important part in reducing the carbon footprint of theshopping mall. KONE delivered 10 energy-saving KONE MonoSpace® elevators. To further enhance the reduction of carbon footprint in the building, lightweight decoration materials were selected. Escalators were equipped with variable speed drives that automatically put the equipment in stand-by mode during times of low People Flow™, helping to significantly lower energy costs. In 2009, 313@somerset was awarded the BCA Green Mark Projects, a program that seeks to raise awareness about sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings. It evaluates buildings for their environmental impact and performances. The Building Construction Authority (BCA) is an agency under the Ministry of National Development, an entity championing creation of an excellent built environment for Singapore.Smooth movement of shoppersIn a shopping mall where traffic is heavy throughout the day, it is essential that a maximum flow of people is made possible with minimal effort. Shoppers need to easily find the stores they want, and depart the complex with ease. Seamless integration of elevators and escalators with the overall building footprint helped to ensure that shoppers have a positive retail experience and store owners get maximum flow-through traffic.
