Designing green buildings 

In order to improve the environmental efficiency of buildings, KONE cooperates with green building organizations. We help customers design buildings that are functional and environmentally efficient throughout their lifecycle. By analyzing the flow of people in buildings, we help our customers match the building size and traffic patterns with the right solutions. These solutions help our customers achieve energy efficiency standards for their buildings.

KONE Inc. was the first elevator and escalator company to become a member of the U.S. Green Building Council. USGBC is a non-profit organization committed to expanding sustainable building practices. USGBC is composed of over 13,500 organizations from the building industry which are working to advance structures that are environmentally responsible, profitable, and healthy places to live and work.

Examples of green building organizations and standards:

• The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED is a voluntary, consensus-based national standard for developing high-performance, sustainable buildings and interiors. The standard is sponsored by USGBC.
• Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the world's most widely used environmental assessment method for buildings.
• Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA). GBCA is a national, not-for-profit organisation that is uniquely supported by both industry and governments across the country. The organisation is funded by membership income and sponsorship only.
• Green Star (by the GBCA) is a comprehensive, national, voluntary environmental rating scheme that evaluates the environmental design and achievements of buildings.
• The Professional Green Building Council (PGBC) in Hong Kong. The PGBC is a non-profit making research and education institute to promote a better sustainable built environment through professional involvement.
