KONE has won a contract from Met.Ro Rome for the maintenance of all units (escalators, autowalks, elevators and stair lifts) installed in the Rome underground lines. The three-year contract is worth over 12 million euros, including modernization activities which account for more than half of the amount. The modernization order was booked in the second quarter of 2009.
Met.Ro., Metropolitana di Roma S.p.A., manages the public transportation service of lines A and B of the Roman underground and of the regional railways (ex concession) Roma-Lido (Ostia), Roma-Giardinetti and Roma-Viterbo. The company allows almost a million people to move safely and quickly in Rome and Lazio every day.
“The fact that KONE was awarded this contract ensures an operational advantage since KONE is also the manufacturer of the majority of the units installed, approximately 60% of the total units,” says Mario Macaluso, Contract Management Director for Met.Ro S.p.A. “We are confident that the long lasting and successful cooperation with KONE will confirm the high quality standards of this new contract.”
“This comprehensive agreement showcases KONE’s excellence in maintenance and modernization solutions for different types of equipment,” says Eric Maziol, EVP, West and South Europe, KONE. “We look forward to continuing this long-lasting relationship with Met.Ro and providing them with the best in maintenance services.”
KONE’s objective is to offer the best people flow experience by developing and delivering solutions that enable people to move smoothly, safely, comfortably and without waiting in buildings in an increasingly urbanizing environment.
