KONE to equip the new Paris Law Courts complex

Press Release Published 21/01/2015

KONE Corporation, press release, January 21, 2015

KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, has won an order to supply 49 elevators and eight escalators to the new Paris Law Courts complex. The building, designed by famous architect Renzo Piano, will also feature a panoramic elevator offering a great view of the surrounding areas.

Located in the Batignolles urban development zone North of Paris, the new complex will reach a height of 160 meters and bring under one roof Paris' regional court, the police court and the public prosecution service as well as the district courts for each of the city's arrondissements.

The new courthouse is featuring the latest in energy consumption among high-rise buildings. The building will include thermal inertia of the complex, use of natural ventilation, usage of photovoltaic panels on the facade and facilities to recover rainwater.

KONE will provide the building with its latest Destination Control System. This intelligent application will boost traffic capacity by optimizing passengers journeys using the most efficient elevator route resulting in less crowded cars, shorter travel times and fewer unnecessary stops.

In addition, the innovative KONE JumpLift construction time use solution will ensure that the installation of the elevators supports the construction process for the building, resulting in a faster construction of the building. The KONE JumpLift solution uses the building's permanent hoistway for construction time use, putting completed floors into action while allowing the installation to continue above. The KONE JumpLift has a temporary fixed machine room that moves upwards in the hoistway as the construction work progresses.

The complex will be equipped with other solutions including 37 KONE MonoSpace® elevators, nine KONE MiniSpace(TM) elevators, and eight KONE TravelMaster(TM) escalators.

"We are very proud to have been selected by Bouygues Construction for this high-rise project in Paris which is surely to become a landmark for the city," says Pierre Liautaud, Executive Vice President and Area Director for KONE West and South Europe and Africa. "By offering our latest energy efficient equipment, we are helping the customer reach their sustainability goals."

Under the contract signed by the Arelia consortium, Bouygues Bâtiment Ile-de-France, a subsidiary of Bouygues Construction, is responsible for design and construction ofthe new courthouse.

The order was booked in the third quarter of 2014.
