KONE Wins Major Elevator and Escalator Orders in Europe, the U.S.A., Australia and Asia

KONE has booked a number of significant projects in Europe, the United States, Australia and Asia during the summer and autumn of 2002.

The orders cover nearly 20 major projects worth a total of over EUR 100 million. These orders call for the delivery of more than 400 elevators, 400 escalators and 50 autowalks.

In Australia KONE will deliver the fastest elevators in its history to the Q1 Tower on the Queensland Gold Coast, south of Brisbane. The nine KONE Alta™ elevators, designed especially to serve skyscrapers, will serve the 80-story residential building at speeds up to 9.0 m/s (1772 ft/min). In Sydney, KONE will deliver a total of 78 elevators, escalators and autowalks to the Bondi Junction Shopping Center Redevelopment Project.

The Singapore Land Transport Authority has awarded KONE the contract to supply 248 heavy-duty escalators and two autowalks for 28 stations serving the Singapore Metro’s new Circle Line.

In the United States, KONE will provide six KONE 3000™ autowalks, four escalators and two elevators for a pedestrian tunnel and 34 KONE ECO3000™ escalators and 20 custom hydraulic elevators for the main terminal of the automated people-mover at Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. KONE ECO3000™ escalators and autowalks feature innovative drives that make them exceptionally energy-efficient.

KONE will provide the Sacramento Airport in California with two KONE ECO3000™ escalators and 11 glass-back elevators for a parking garage addition. In the Miami, Florida area KONE is currently installing elevators and escalators for the 64-story Four Seasons and 36-story Espirito Santa Plaza. In addition, KONE has been awarded the contract to supply a 49-story luxury condominuium with 11 elevators powered by KONE EcoDisc® machines.

KONE continues to be selected for prestige deliveries in China. The National Grand Theater on Tian’anmen Square in Beijing will feature a total of 52 KONE elevators and 36 KONE escalators. Guangzhou New Baiyun Airport will be served by 45 KONE elevators. Two residential projects in Dongguan will be served by a total of 118 KONE elevators; RuiHong New City (Phase Two) in Shanghai will get 30 elevators, eight escalators and four autowalks; and Pengyun Plaza in Shenzhen will have 15 elevators and 20 escalators from KONE. By the end of September, KONE China had already exceeded the total of orders received for all 12 months of 2001 by more than 10%. The environmental friendliness of KONE’s products has been a strong contributor to their popularity.

In the U.K., KONE will supply 31 elevators to Moor House and The Wellcome Trust's new head office. KONE has also been awarded the first of five pier segmentation projects planned for Heathrow and Gatwick Airports. The order is for nine heavy-duty escalators, five heavy-duty autowalks and 10 KONE MonoSpace® machine-room-less elevators for Gatwick South Terminal.

KONE’s Interim Report for the third quarter of 2002 will be published Tuesday, 22 October, 2002 at 12:00 noon Helsinki time.
