KONE's First 9.0 m/s Elevators for Australian Tower

Press Release Published 08/10/2002

KONE Pty of Australia and New Zealand has booked two major projects, one involving a large number of units and the other promising delivery of the fastest KONE elevators so far.

The world's tallest residential tower, known as Q1, is being built on the Queensland Gold Coast about an hour's drive south of Brisbane. KONE will provide the 80-story building with nine KONE Alta™ elevators, two of which will travel at 9.0 m/s. The delivery will also include two KONE MonoSpace® Plus units. KONE's fastest elevators so far have been the 8.3 m/s units in Citigroup Tower in London, England.

Westfield Design and Construction has ordered a total of 78 elevators, escalators and autowalks from KONE for the Bondi Junction Shopping Center Redevelopment near Sydney. The 34 escalators and 28 autowalks will be delivered from the Kunshan Factory in China. The 16 elevators will be produced in Hyvinkää, Finland.

Both the Q1 and Bondi Junction deliveries are scheduled to be carried out during 2003-4.
