KONE to deliver People Flow at The Leadenhall Building in London

Press Release Published 02/12/2011

KONE Corporation, press release, December 2, 2011

KONE has won an order to provide the People Flow™ solutions to The Leadenhall Building in London. The order includes 29 elevators and five escalators.

The main elevator solution for vertical transportation in the 47-storey building is KONE MiniSpace®, which is especially suited to high-rise buildings. KONE has designed a group of 22 scenic glass elevators to meet the intense traffic demands and to match the unique design of the building. The KONE Polaris® destination control system will increase the handling capacity of the elevators and reduce waiting times. Other innovative technologies will be integrated with the elevators, such as the KONE E-Link™ monitoring system. On the lower levels of the building, KONE TransitMaster® 120 escalators will be installed. Together, these solutions will ensure the smooth People Flow of the people working and visiting Leadenhall.

“We are proud to have proved our competence in design and our expertise in providing the best People Flow in London skyscrapers again,” says Ari Lehtoranta, EVP and Area Director for KONE Central and North Europe.

KONE originally won an order in 2007 for the project, which was delayed two years due to the economic downturn. At the end of 2010 the project was revived and The Leadenhall Building is currently being developed by British Land in conjunction with Oxford Properties on a 50:50 joint venture basis. Laing O’Rourke has been appointed construction partner and the architect is Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

The order was booked in Q3 of 2011.
