KONE Wins a Major Modernization Order for McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas

Press Release Published 24/04/2007

KONE has secured an order to modernize 33 escalators and autowalks at the McCarran International Airport (MIA) in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The order is the single largest modernization project awarded to KONE in both the monetary value and the amount of equipment ordered. The installation of KONE units will begin in May 2007 and is scheduled for completion during the fourth quarter of 2009. The value of the order is estimated at approximately EUR 15 million.

The order covers 21 escalators and 12 autowalks, which will be replaced by state of the art KONE modernization solutions. The installed solutions are complete escalator modernization packages, which offer an innovative and systematic way to entirely replace the inner workings of escalators with brand new technology.

“We are very pleased to continue our successful cooperation with the McCarran Airport and its representative, Bechtel Infrastructure Corporation. Our previous modernization project in 2006 shows that the attention paid on critical success factors has helped us establish loyalty in our customer relationships,” says Vance Tang, KONE Area Director for North America. “Due to the round-the-clock traffic at the airport, the installation and the life-cycle effectiveness of the equipment are crucial to minimize the impacts on the traffic and day-to-day operations of the airport. We have all the capabilities to meet these challenges with KONE’s advanced modernization solutions.”

McCarran International Airport is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, U.S. In 2006, the airport was rated the sixth-busiest airport in the U.S. and 11th-busiest on a global scale. More than 1,100 scheduled flights operate in and out of the McCarran each day. Last year, J.D. Power and Associates ranked McCarran first in overall passenger satisfaction among large North American airports.
