Opened in 2011, Melbourne's Royal Children's Hospital is Victoria's largest medical complex, with 85% single-patient rooms and twice the research space of the hospital it replaced. Designed for children and families, it features a two-story aquarium and sustainability initiatives that earned it recognition as Australia's greenest hospital.
The redevelopment was delivered through a public-private partnership between the Department of Health, Royal Children's Hospital, and the Children's Health Partnership consortium. KONE was selected to provide solutions that supported both operational and sustainability goals.
Specialized patient transportation
KONE delivered tailored solutions including a super-sized elevator with direct helipad access, supporting the hospital's patient transport requirements.
Advancing sustainability goals
KONE's regenerative EcoDisc® technology formed part of the hospital's eco-efficient design and supported its environmental objectives.
Child-focused elevator design
Custom elevator interiors featuring specially etched and painted glass with children's themes contribute to the hospital's welcoming environment.
