Case overview

Rising 528 meters above Beijing, the 108-story CITIC Tower takes its design from a Zun, an ancient Chinese wine vessel. Combining cultural heritage with modern engineering, the tower reflects China’s rapid high-rise development and the innovative technologies behind it.

Key requirements of the project

  • Provide safe and reliable transportation throughout construction
  • Enable efficient movement of materials and equipment
  • Support efficient and reliable elevator operation in a super-tall building
  • Ensure smooth people flow for more than 30,000 occupants

Construction efficiency

Building faster with JumpLift™

KONE JumpLift™ played an important role in the construction of CITIC Tower. The solution uses a temporary machine room inside the permanent elevator shaft and moves upward as construction progresses. Once construction is complete, it can be converted into a permanent elevator. Throughout construction JumpLift supports the movement of workers and materials, helping save time, reduce costs and maintain progress.

“My calculations show that we are saving about 320,000 work hours per year at CITIC Tower, which is a big saving.”

Technician with KONE UltraRope

Traveling light with UltraRope®

Another KONE technology driving CITIC Tower's height is UltraRope®. Featuring a carbon-fiber core and specialized high-friction coating, UltraRope is significantly lighter and more durable than traditional steel ropes. The technology reduces rope weight by up to 80%, enabling elevators to travel farther and faster while improving energy efficiency and supporting reliable operation throughout the building.

“UltraRope will dramatically reduce the moving mass of the elevator and provide several efficiencies that are beneficial to the customer.”
