How KONE powers people flow at 2 Finsbury Avenue in London

KONE is contributing to the project by supplying lifts and escalators designed to meet the unique needs of this urban high-rise complex. With up to 10,000 people expected to work in the building every day, user experience is central to the project’s success.   

“Vertical transportation is vital if we’re going to keep our customers happy,” says Charles Horne, project director at British Land. “We want all the people who work in the towers to feel like they work in the best office, not only in London but in the world. In order to do that, we need to have the best possible solutions throughout the building complex. Lifts in particular are a massive part of ensuring that our tenants have a great experience when they come to work.”  

To bring this vision to life, KONE is supplying 19 KONE MiniSpace™ lifts, 12 KONE MonoSpace® 700 lifts and three energy‑efficient KONE TravelMaster™ 110 escalators for 2 Finsbury Avenue. Our solutions have been designed for the demands of modern urban life, with a focus on maximising usable space and minimising waiting time. The smart building features are further complemented by the KONE Office Flow and E-Link™ solutions, providing seamless, touch‑free access and real‑time visibility into lift operations, reducing crowding and disruptions. 

For a project of this scale and complexity, early and close collaboration between KONE and the construction teams has been critical. George Amy, project director at Sir Robert McAlpine, explains that this collaborative approach has helped the teams test ideas and improve the overall solution.  

 “Being involved early in the 2 Finsbury Avenue project has allowed us to work with KONE and other contractors to investigate options, peer review our ideas, challenge our thinking, and learn from others outside the project as well.” 

For example, KONE has developed a vertical transportation strategy that supports the architectural vision while aligning with the construction sequencing, sustainability targets, and long‑term operational needs of this project.
