Core benefits

Full flexibility for every building

  • Improved people flow and security

Integrate elevator access control with your building systems to enable smarter, more organized movement through the building. Personalized elevator calls are triggered automatically when a user taps their card, reducing lobby crowding.

  • Easy and straightforward installation

KONE provides a complete package of all hardware and software for the access control of elevators and turnstiles. KONE Access™ utilizes networks that the elevators already use, so there is no need to install parallel networks.

  • A partner network at your service

Our wide global network of certified partners can help to set up your site for easy access integration. For companies going through the integration for the first time, we offer a well-established framework.

  • Scale up and adapt as your needs change

As your building evolves, so do the needs for access control. Whether it’s daily visitor passes or tenant changes, KONE Access™ always stays up to speed thanks to constant database synchronization with the building access control system.

How KONE Access™ works

  • Woman waiting for elevator

    Seamless integration

    The connected journey

Integrated access readers in destination operating panels, turnstiles, or conventional elevator control devices form a safe access network across the elevator system. An API connects KONE Access™ with your building access control system, enabling it to adapt to any changes. Support for multiple access media such as RFID cards and tags, mobile wallets, and QR codes adds flexibility to serving both permanent tenants and visitors.

  • Man and woman walking in an office

    Powerful access management

    Manage who goes where

Create temporary visitor passes and manage tenant access rights and profiles in the building access control system. This information is shared automatically with the KONE Access™ system over API for secure elevator and turnstile access control.

  • Woman waiting for elevator

    Customized elevator calls

    Personalize the elevator experience

For buildings with destination control, elevator calls can be fully personalized: home floor routing, priority dispatch, accessibility features and space reservation. For conventional elevator groups, floor-based access or device unlocking can be managed both from landing panels and inside the elevator car, based on user profiles.

  • Man looking at multiple screens

    Access monitoring

    Stay in control

Monitor access points and device statuses in real time, review data logs and usage reports with KONE E-Link™, and utilize the optional integration to your building management system. KONE Access™ also supports integration on site with multiple access control groups, making it the ideal solution for multi-tenant buildings.

Frequently asked questions about KONE Access

KONE Access is an elevator access control solution that can also be extended to compatible turnstiles in new and existing buildings. It integrates with the building’s access control system to support a secure, building-wide access experience.

Users authenticate at KONE or compatible third-party access readers using approved access media, such as access cards, tags, QR codes, or mobile wallet credentials. Access rights are managed through the building’s access control system and shared with KONE Access through an API integration.

Available features, credentials, and integrations may vary by building, access control provider, and system configuration.

KONE Access uses the elevator network to transmit access-control data, which can reduce the need for a separate parallel network. Pre-wired, factory-installed KONE access readers can also simplify installation.

Depending on the building, system design, and installation scope, KONE Access may deliver material and installation cost savings of up to 80% compared with certain add-on elevator access control solutions.

Customers can continue using supported access cards and manage access rights through the building’s access control system. Compatible third-party readers may also be used at elevators and turnstiles, although doing so may affect installation efficiency, cost savings, functionality, or support.

KONE Lane is a next-generation turnstile designed for premium lobbies and high-traffic environments. It integrates with KONE Access and compatible KONE destination control systems to support coordinated building entry and elevator journeys.

KONE Lane features time-of-flight technology designed to help detect tailgating and can support elevator call functionality. Depending on the selected layout and comparison baseline, its footprint may be up to 90% smaller than that of certain conventional turnstile configurations.

KONE Lane received a Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 in the Interior Design Elements and Innovative Products category.

KONE Access is designed to support secure access management through dedicated elevator networks and on-premises integration with the building’s access control system.

User access rights are synchronized through the integration so that changes made by authorized building administrators can be reflected in KONE Access. The system can authenticate access rights without requiring the cardholder’s name, depending on the selected integration and configuration.

KONE Access also includes redundancy features designed to support system availability and reduce the risk associated with individual component failures. Security, privacy, synchronization, and availability depend on the overall building system, integration design, configuration, and maintenance practices.

When integrated with the building’s access control system, KONE Access can allow receptionists or facility managers to issue temporary visitor credentials through the building access control interface.

KONE readers at elevators and turnstiles can then verify the visitor’s assigned access rights in the same way they verify other authorized credentials. Depending on the reader and system configuration, supported credential technologies may include QR codes, RFID cards and tags, NFC, Bluetooth Low Energy, and mobile wallet credentials.

Available visitor workflows and credential types vary by access control provider, integration, device, and region.

Contact a KONE representative to confirm whether your building access control provider and planned system configuration are compatible with KONE Access.

For supported providers, KONE can provide information about available certified integrations. New provider integrations may follow KONE’s integration process, which can include Factory Acceptance Testing. In some cases, a certified middleware provider may be used to connect the building access control system with KONE Access.

Compatibility should be assessed for each project because available integrations, features, credentials, and certification requirements may vary by provider, system version, and region.
