Frequently asked questions

KONE Journey is a modular, connected portfolio of smart elevator solutions designed to improve people flow and the passenger experience. It brings together destination control, access control, digital infotainment, mobile elevator calling, and related services that can be configured for the needs of new and existing buildings.

The portfolio allows building owners and developers to select individual solutions or combine them to create a more connected elevator journey.

KONE Journey brings together four core solutions:

  • KONE Destination: A destination control solution designed to group passengers traveling to the same or nearby floors and support more efficient people flow.
  • KONE Access: An integrated access control solution that helps manage access to elevators, floors, and other authorized areas.
  • KONE Infotainment: Digital displays and media solutions that provide information and content during the elevator journey.
  • KONE Elevator Call: A mobile solution that allows users to call an elevator using a compatible smartphone.

The solutions can be selected individually or combined, depending on the building, elevator system, technical requirements, and desired passenger experience.

KONE Journey is designed to support a range of building environments, including offices, residential buildings, hotels, healthcare facilities, educational buildings, and mixed-use developments.

Because the portfolio is modular, available solutions can be selected and scaled according to the building’s people-flow needs, use cases, and technical specifications. Product availability and configuration may vary by market and building.

Yes. KONE Journey supports both new construction and existing buildings. Depending on the elevator equipment, building systems, and technical requirements, selected solutions may be added as part of an upgrade or modernization project.

A site assessment is recommended to determine compatibility, integration requirements, available functionality, and whether changes to existing equipment or systems are needed.

KONE Destination and KONE Access perform different but complementary functions:

  • KONE Destination assigns passengers to elevators based on their selected destination. It is designed to group people traveling to the same or nearby floors and can help improve handling capacity and journey efficiency, particularly during busy traffic periods.
  • KONE Access helps manage who is authorized to enter the building or travel to specific floors and areas. Depending on the configuration, it may support access credentials, touch-free access, and integration with turnstiles or other building-entry systems.

When used together, KONE Access verifies access rights while KONE Destination helps manage the passenger’s elevator journey.

Integration may be possible, but compatibility depends on the existing building systems, elevator equipment, interfaces, and how the original systems were implemented.

KONE connectivity and APIs can support selected use cases, such as elevator calling, service-robot integration, equipment-data sharing, and connections with building applications or management platforms. KONE Access may also connect with compatible third-party access control systems.

A technical assessment is required to confirm compatibility, available features, cybersecurity requirements, responsibilities between system providers, and whether software or equipment updates are needed.
