KONE Americas Retires ReSolve with Unity Drive Product

Making AC gearless technology available to customers underscores KONE’s commitment to delivering the latest innovation to customers and sustainable, efficient, future-proofed buildings

LISLE, Ill. Sept. 6, 2022 - KONE, a global leader in the elevator and escalator industry, today announced it has retired the KONE ReSolve with Unity Drive product offering effective immediately. The company will no longer modernize older DC gearless machines. As a result, KONE will be looking to offer customers machine replacements with newer AC technology.

“Older DC technology presents a number of risks such as braking systems not meeting latest safety code and costly repairs if issues arise for building owners,” said Dan Walsh, vertical market business director for modernization at KONE Americas. “The benefits behind the latest AC gearless technology include increased energy efficiency, lower cost to maintain the equipment long-term, and safety, while also future-proofing the lifespan of your building.”

DC gearless machines will continue to present challenges for the industry, which have been recognized by engineering and building code experts. Existing braking systems do not meet the latest building safety code and worn traction sheaves typically need replacement or re-grooving. DC machines potentially expose building owners to high risk, costly repairs, and prolonged equipment downtime. Aging technology, the dwindling number of technicians trained to repair DC machines, and availability of compatible parts to complete repairs are just a few of the factors that create this exposure.
