Stay on Corporate siteFlughafen Wien AG, the operator of the Vienna International Airport, has awarded KONE a contract to provide 35 KONE MonoSpace® Special elevators and one KONE TranSys™ freight elevator, 63 escalators and eight autowalks for the airport’s new Skylink Terminal. In addition, KONE will deliver six KONE MonoSpace® elevators for the airport’s Office Park extension.
“We are very pleased that Flughafen Wien AG has chosen KONE for these projects based, among other criteria, on KONE’s advanced technology and the low energy consumption and the lifetime efficiency of KONE’s products. The new installations are almost going to double the number of KONE units installed at the Vienna International Airport and thus strengthen our partnership in moving people,” comments KONE Executive Vice President, Central and North Europe, Noud Veeger.
The Skylink expansion includes a 730-meter-long, 51-gate docking pier to accommodate the parallel handling of 17 aircraft. Despite the significant enhancement of the Vienna Airport transfer times will be kept at the actual level. The innovative design of the Skylink terminal combined with the transportation-capacity of KONE equipment guarantees the short transfer time of 25 minutes for passengers between Schengen and non-Schengen flights and increases the airport’s total annual capacity to 24 million passengers, which is almost double the number it handled in 2004.
The airport order continues KONE’s success in bidding competition for major public transportation projects in Europe. The delivery of KONE units for the Skylink project is scheduled for completion in 2008.
