For over a century, we have enabled cities to grow taller, more accessible, and energy efficient. For us, leading in our industry also means leading in sustainability.
Cities are at the heartbeat of modern life. Today, more than half of the planet’s population resides in cities – a number set to rise to two thirds by 2050. We believe that this urban growth must be sustainable, inclusive, and innovative – shaping communities where people thrive, while reducing the environmental impact from KONE and our customers. We envision smart and digitally connected cities where movement is seamless, energy resources are optimized, and people feel safe and included. In these cities, every innovation drives progress, every partnership fuels positive change, and we do not just adapt but actively shape a sustainable future. With our strategy, Rise, and our purpose to shape the future of cities, KONE’s ambition is to lead the industry – also in sustainability. Our sustainability leadership is about creating lasting impact, and we invite the world to rise with us.
Join our President and CEO Philippe Delorme and Chairman of the Board Antti Herlin as they discuss the importance of sustainability. With a sharp focus on sustainability, companies hold the key to solving the challenges the world is facing.
Our sustainability highlights in 2025
KONE has always been a forerunner in sustainability. Already in 2008, we integrated sustainable development into the core of our corporate strategy and proudly published our first Sustainability Report. Today, we continue to push boundaries with new innovations, partnerships, and ambitious targets.
KONE has defined a purpose, ‘We shape the future of cities’. It is about taking a leading role in making cities more vibrant and livable places for everyone. But why does an elevator company want to shape the future of cities? We caught up with our President and CEO, Philippe Delorme, and Executive Vice President, People and Communications, Kaija Bridger, to find out.
In 2026, KONE published two reports on sustainability. The Sustainability Statement was prepared pursuant to the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD). Our Sustainability Supplement complements the Sustainability Statement with further information on KONE’s approach to sustainability and was prepared in reference to the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards.
