KONE today announced it has been awarded an order to supply 21 elevators and eight escalators at the Long Beach Court Building in Long Beach, California.
Several KONE products will be installed, including the KONE Monospace® and KONE EcoSystem MR™ elevator solutions and KONE TravelMaster™ 110 escalators. KONE Monospace and EcoSystem MR elevators uphold KONE’s commitment to deliver solutions that use less energy and as many recycleable materials as possible. The elevator is run by the energy-efficient KONE EcoDisc®, which consumes approximately 50 percent less energy than conventional traction machines and up to 70 percent less than traditional hydraulic elevators.
Additionally, the KONE TravelMaster 110 escalator solution is also an energy-efficient platform which offers an optional regenerative drive and standby speed operation. Energy-saving options from the escalator will provide an estimated 13 percent savings on annual energy costs, reducing the escalator’s total energy use over its lifecycle by up to 93,000 kWh. The energy savings options will reduce total lifecycle carbon emissions of the product by up to 52 tonnes of CO2.
“We are excited to participate in this groundbreaking project,” said Vance Tang, EVP and Area Director of KONE Americas. “KONE’s commitment to safety and environmental excellence match up well with the needs of the Long Beach Court Building. We provide innovative, quality solutions to ensure smooth people flow on a day-to-day basis.”
The Long Beach Court Building is the first courthouse in the United States to be delivered using the principals of Performance Based Infrastructure contracting. This unique form of public/private partnership allows the State of California to realize the benefits of private sector efficiency and innovation to deliver a facility that will best meet the needs of the State's court system.
Work on the project is scheduled to begin mid-year 2012 and the building is slated to open in the fall of 2013. The order was booked in Q3 of 2011.
