Stay on Corporate siteKONE has secured major orders in Italy and Qatar with a combined value of approximately EUR 27 million.
In Italy, Met.Ro. S.p.A. has awarded KONE a multi-year order to modernize 32 escalators and four walkways in the Roman metro system. The project represents the largest modernization order ever won by KONE in Italy.
Met.Ro. (Metropolitana di Roma) manages the two Roman underground lines and railways in the Rome region. The order confirms KONE’s ability to provide a performance edge for customers in public transportation customer segment, thanks to its advanced technology. It enables the customer to avoid costly and disruptive masonry work while keeping the existing trusses when executing the full replacement of the units.
In Qatar, KONE will supply 89 elevators and six escalators for the Doha City Center, which is being expanded to include five 5-star hotel towers and a larger retail podium. The order, which was included in the 2005 order book, is the largest order ever given to any elevator company for a project in Qatar. Installation work will begin in April, 2006 and be completed in 2008. The hotels will be run by Shangri-la, Marriott Renaissance, Marriott Courtyard, Rotana and Merweb. The main contractor for the project is Al Habtoor Engineering.
