Metro de Madrid, one of the largest metro systems in the world, has placed orders for three major projects with KONE involving installations or modernizations of a total of 94 KONE heavy-duty escalators and 38 KONE MonoSpace® machine-room-less elevators.
The combined value of the contracts is approximately EUR 22 million, of which approximately EUR 18 million was included in KONE's first quarter order book.
The escalator and elevator deliveries are part of the Madrid Metro's largest extension ever, involving 90 kilometers of new track covering much of the greater Madrid metropolitan area. The order is also the largest ever won by KONE Spain.
"We are extremely pleased that Metro de Madrid, with whom we have long and mutually beneficial relationships, has chosen KONE for this exciting project. It shows the trust our customers place in KONE's solutions and project management skills in major public transportation projects," comments KONE Executive Vice President, West and South Europe, Eric Maziol.
The installation work will begin by the fall of this year and will be completed by the spring of 2007.
